     Requires New Jersey election officials to coordinate with relevant federal officials regarding election security.

An Act requiring New Jersey election officials to coordinate with relevant federal officials regarding election security and supplementing Title 19 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The Secretary of State, the Director of the Division of Elections, the County Clerk of each county, the superintendent of elections in counties having a superintendent of elections, and the county board of elections in all other counties shall coordinate as necessary with relevant federal officials, including, but not limited to, the federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Department of Homeland Security, and the United States Election Assistance Commission to address election security issues.  Each such official shall maintain a confidential written report, not accessible to public inspection, on an annual basis, with the Division of Elections that documents any election security-related contact with federal officials.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill requires the Secretary of State, the Director of the Division of Elections, the County Clerk of any county, the superintendent of elections in counties having a superintendent of elections, and the county board in all other counties to coordinate as necessary with relevant federal officials, including, but not limited to, the federal Bureau of Investigation, the Director of the United State Office of Homeland Security, and the United States Election Assistance Commission to address election security issues.  Each such official will be required to maintain a confidential written report, not accessible to public inspection, on an annual basis, with the Division of Elections that documents any election security-related contact with federal officials.
