SYNOPSIS
Adopts a new policy governing discrimination and harassment for use by the Legislature.

A Concurrent Resolution adopting a policy for the New Jersey Legislature to prevent and respond to discrimination and harassment.
whereas, The New Jersey Legislature is a place of civility and mutual respect and the New Jersey Legislature is committed to providing its members, employees and third parties with a work environment free from all forms of discrimination or harassment; and
whereas, The comprehensive policy for the New Jersey Legislature to assure a workplace free from discrimination and harassment was last adopted on February 9, 2009 by direction of the Presiding Officers serving in 2009; and
whereas, There has recently been an increased national focus on sexual harassment in the workplace as evidenced by the #MeToo social media movement; and
whereas, In 2018, 32 states have introduced over 125 pieces of legislation related to harassment and harassment training; and
whereas, Many State Legislatures have recently adopted new policies governing the workplace; and
whereas, The current Senate President and Speaker of the General Assembly have requested an updated policy which better reflects current needs and standards for the Legislature; and
whereas, It is fitting and proper for the Legislature to adopt an updated policy to more effectively and efficiently serve its members, officers and employees; now, therefore,
Be It Resolved by the General Assembly of the State of New Jersey (the Senate concurring):
1. That the New Jersey Legislature Anti-Discrimination and Anti-Harassment Policy, dated September 24, 2018, be adopted for use by the New Jersey Legislature.
2. This resolution shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This resolution adopts an updated Anti-Harassment policy governing the Legislature including employees of the Office of Legislative Services, the Senate and General Assembly Majority and Minority Offices and of the Legislative District Offices for current use by the Legislature, its members, officers, and employees, effective immediately.
