SYNOPSIS
Prohibits certain terminal leave compensation for local elected officials.

An Act concerning terminal leave compensation for local government elected officials and supplementing Title 40A of the New Jersey Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Notwithstanding any law, rule or regulation to the contrary, a local government official who holds an elective office with a county or municipality shall not be eligible to receive or accrue any terminal leave compensation at any time based upon accrued vacation leave, sick leave or terminal leave benefits for longevity after the effective date of this act, P.L. , c. (C. ) (now before the Legislature as this bill) for service in that office. An official who holds office on the effective date of this act who has accrued terminal leave compensation based upon accrued vacation leave, sick leave or terminal leave benefits shall remain eligible to receive such compensation, subject to law, but shall not accrue any additional terminal leave compensation based upon accumulated vacation leave, sick leave or terminal leave benefits.
2. This act shall take effect immediately.
STATEMENT
This bill prohibits the payment of terminal leave compensation for accumulated sick leave or terminal leave benefits for longevity for local elected officials upon their leaving office. The bill allows current elected officials who, at the time of the bill's enactment, have accrued sick leave or terminal leave benefits, to receive the terminal leave compensation upon their leaving office, but precludes them from accruing any additional terminal leave compensation.
