SYNOPSIS

     Prohibits wildlife rehabilitator from euthanizing wildlife except as specified.

An Act concerning the use of euthanasia by wildlife rehabilitators and supplementing Title 23 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    Except as otherwise authorized by federal law, a licensed wildlife rehabilitator shall only euthanize wildlife if it is the only recourse to end the animal's suffering and when it cannot be returned to the wild with a reasonable expectation of survival.

 

     2.    This act shall take effect immediately.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill prohibits a licensed wildlife rehabilitator from euthanizing wildlife unless otherwise otherwise authorized by federal law, if it is the only recourse to end the animal's suffering and when it cannot be returned to the wild with a reasonable expectation of survival.
