     Directs NJTA and SJTA to apply 10 percent discount to toll payments made by customers having New Jersey electronic toll collection system account in event of motor fuel tax increase; sunsets two years from increase.

An Act concerning electronic toll collection systems and the motor fuel tax and supplementing Title 27 of the Revised Statutes.

 

     Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:

 

     1.    The authority shall authorize a 10 percent toll discount to toll payments made, pursuant to section 1 of P.L.1951, c.264 (C.27:23-25), by a customer who has an account with a New Jersey electronic toll collection system, subject to sections 6 through 10 of P.L.1997, c.59 (C.27:23-34.1 through C.27:23-34.5).

 

     2.    The authority shall authorize a 10 percent toll discount to toll payments made, pursuant to section 19 of P.L.1991, c.252 (C.27:25A-19), by a customer who has an account with a New Jersey electronic toll collection system, subject to sections 11 through 15 of P.L.1997, c.59 (C.27:25A-21.1 through C.27:25A-21.5).

 

     3.    This act shall take effect upon the enactment into law of any increase in the tax imposed pursuant to paragraph (1) of subsection a. of section 3 of the "Motor Fuel Tax Act," P.L.2010, c.22 (54:39-103), and shall expire two years thereafter.

 

 

STATEMENT

 

     This bill directs the New Jersey Turnpike Authority and the South Jersey Transportation Authority to apply a 10 percent discount to toll payments made on the New Jersey Turnpike, the Garden State Parkway, and Atlantic City Expressway by customers who have an account with a New Jersey electronic toll collection system, commonly referred to as E-ZPass. This discount will go into effect in the event of any increase in the motor fuel tax. The 10 percent discount on toll payments will sunset two years from the date of the enactment of the motor fuel tax increase.
