SYNOPSIS
Requires newly-manufactured school buses to be equipped with global positioning system.

An Act concerning school buses and supplementing Title 39 of the Revised Statutes.
Be It Enacted by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey:
1. Each school bus as defined in R.S.39:1-1 shall be equipped with a global positioning system that provides information about the location and speed of each school bus in real time.
2. The State Board of Education, in consultation with the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission, shall promulgate, pursuant to the "Administrative Procedure Act," P.L.1968, c.410 (C.52:14B-1 et seq.), rules and regulations concerning the installation of global positioning systems on school buses and the use of data collected from the global positioning systems.
3. This act shall take effect immediately and shall be applicable to school buses manufactured on or after the 180th day following enactment.
STATEMENT
This bill requires school buses manufactured on or after the 180th day after the bill is enacted to be equipped with a global positioning system (GPS). A GPS that is installed on a school bus is to provide information about the location and speed of the school bus in real time.
