CURRENT VERSION OF TEXT

     As introduced.

A Senate Resolution urging the New Jersey Transit Corporation to make improvements to and better advertise certain notification services.

Whereas, On March 24, 2017, an Amtrak train derailed in New York Pennsylvania Station ("Penn Station") and on April 3, 2017, a New Jersey Transit Corporation ("NJ Transit") train derailed in Penn Station, which both caused major delays for NJ Transit rail passengers; and

Whereas, As a result of the derailments, Amtrak began conducting track work and track inspections, which are expected to delay riders traveling to and from Penn Station; and

Whereas, On April 25, 2017, it was reported by several media outlets that NJ Transit had indicated that delays would continue indefinitely as a result of the track work and track inspections being conducted by Amtrak; and

Whereas, Now, more than ever, NJ Transit customers are in need of real-time notifications regarding delays, schedule changes, and other service adjustments; and

Whereas, The NJ Transit website does not prominently display the link that enables a customer to sign up for alerts and advisories, which may be sent to the customer's mobile device or email, and the NJ Transit mobile application ("app") has not been given a high rating by the users of the app; and

Whereas, For the sake of its customers, NJ Transit should make improvements to its services that allow customers to sign up for alerts and advisories regarding delays, schedule changes, and other service adjustments, and NJ Transit should also better advertise those notification services; now, therefore,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of New Jersey:

     1.  This House urges the New Jersey Transit Corporation to:

     2.  Copies of this resolution, as filed with the Secretary of State, shall be transmitted by the Secretary of the Senate to the Governor, the Executive Director of the New Jersey Transit Corporation, and the Board of Directors of the New Jersey Transit Corporation.
