        AN ACT to amend the administrative code of the  city  of  New  York,  in
          relation  to  requiring the department of homeless services to provide
          notice prior to locating transitional housing for the homeless in  any
          hotel, motel or similar establishment
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. The administrative code of the city of New York is  amended
     2  by adding a new section 21-324 to read as follows:
     3    §  21-324  Community  notification requirement. 1. When the department
     4  intends to locate transitional housing for homeless families or individ-
     5  uals in any hotel, motel or other similar establishment, the commission-
     6  er shall provide notification in writing to the community board for  the
     7  community district in which the transitional housing will be located and
     8  to  all  city,  state  and  federal  elected  officials representing the
     9  district in which such transitional housing will be located. Such notice
    10  shall be provided at least forty-five days before the department  enters
    11  into a contractual arrangement with a hotel, motel or similar establish-
    12  ment  or otherwise finalizes its decision to use or expand such location
    13  as transitional housing.
    14    2. The notification shall include the address and name of  the  person
    15  or  entity  operating  the  hotel,  motel  or similar establishment, the
    16  number of people who will be housed in  such  hotel,  motel  or  similar
    17  establishment  and  an  approximate  schedule for when such transitional
    18  housing at the hotel, motel or similar establishment  will  be  used  or
    19  expanded.
    20    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
