          referred  to the Committee on Election Law -- reported from committee,
          advanced to a third reading, amended and ordered reprinted,  retaining
          its place on the order of third reading
        AN  ACT  to amend the election law, in relation to signatures for desig-
          nating petitions for certain political subdivisions; and providing for
          the repeal of such provisions upon expiration thereof
          The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and  Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section  1.  Section  6-136 of the election law is amended by adding a
     2  new subdivision 5 to read as follows:
     3    5. Notwithstanding subdivision two of this  section,  for  designating
     4  petitions  for  political  subdivisions outside the city of New York and
     5  the counties of Erie and Nassau, except for the position  of  member  of
     6  ward,  town,  city or county committee, such petitions must be signed by
     7  not less than three and three-quarters per centum, as determined by  the
     8  preceding  enrollment, of the then enrolled voters of the party residing
     9  within the political unit in which the office or position is to be voted
    10  for (excluding voters in inactive status). The  reductions  provided  by
    11  subdivision  four  of  this section as added by chapter seventeen of the
    12  laws of two thousand nineteen shall also apply.
    13    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately and shall expire  December
    14  31,  2019 when upon such date the provisions of this act shall be deemed
    15  repealed.
