        AN ACT to amend the executive law and the education law, in relation  to
          school resource officers
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section 1. The executive law is amended by adding a new section 233 to
     2  read as follows:
     3    § 233. School resource officer unit. There is hereby established with-
     4  in the division of state police the school resource officer unit,  which
     5  shall  be  a  specialized  unit  having  advanced  training in providing
     6  improved public safety and/or security on  school  grounds.  The  school
     7  resource  officer  unit  shall  perform  such tasks as determined by the
     8  superintendent.
     9    § 2. The education law is amended by adding a new  section  2801-c  to
    10  read as follows:
    11    §  2801-c.  School  resource officers. The board of education or trus-
    12  tees, as defined in  section  two  of  this  chapter,  of  every  school
    13  district  within  the state, however created, and every board of cooper-
    14  ative educational services and county vocational education and extension
    15  board and the chancellor of the city school district of the city of  New
    16  York  may request the placement of a member of the school resource offi-
    17  cer unit of the division of state police at any building,  structure  or
    18  facility  primarily  used for the instruction of students located within
    19  such district.
    20    § 3. This act shall take effect on July 1, 2020. Effective  immediate-
    21  ly,  the  addition,  amendment  and/or  repeal of any rule or regulation
    22  necessary for the implementation of this act on its effective  date  are
    23  authorized  and  directed  to  be  made  and completed on or before such
    24  effective date.
