STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 10311 IN ASSEMBLY April 22, 2020 ___________ Introduced by M. of A. McMAHON -- read once and referred to the Commit- tee on Insurance AN ACT to amend the insurance law, in relation to allowing insurance carriers to offer a discount to drivers who have been trained to oper- ate an authorized emergency vehicle The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 2336 of the insurance law is amended by adding a 2 new subsection (i) to read as follows: 3 (i) A schedule of rates or rating plan for motor vehicle liability and 4 collision insurance submitted to the superintendent may provide for an 5 appropriate reduction in premium charges for any insured, for a period 6 of time which shall be determined by the superintendent, who has been 7 trained to operate an authorized emergency vehicle, as defined by 8 section one hundred one of the vehicle and traffic law. On or before the 9 effective date of this subsection, the commissioner of motor vehicles 10 shall create a form, which shall be posted on the department of motor 11 vehicles' website, whereby employers of drivers of authorized emergency 12 vehicles can affirm that a driver has in fact been trained to operate an 13 authorized emergency vehicle. 14 § 2. This act shall take effect on the one hundred eightieth day after 15 it shall have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amend- 16 ment and/or repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implemen- 17 tation of this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and 18 completed on or before such effective date.
