AN ACT to amend the public authorities law, in relation to designating a
portion of the New York state thruway as the "Western New York Veter-
ans Memorial Highway"
The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
bly, do enact as follows:
1 Section 1. Subdivision 1 of section 356-a of the public authorities
2 law, as added by chapter 741 of the laws of 1957, is amended to read as
3 follows:
4 1. [The] (a) Subject to the provisions of paragraph (b) of this subdi-
5 vision, the thruway constructed along the routes described in subdivi-
6 sions one, two, three, four and five of section three hundred fifty-six
7 of this article shall be known as "The Iroquois Trail".
8 (b) Notwithstanding the provision of paragraph (a) of this subdivi-
9 sion, that portion of the thruway constructed between exit 48 (Batavia)
10 in Genesee county and exit 49 (Depew - Lockport), in Erie county, shall
11 be designated and known as the "Western New York Veterans Memorial High-
12 way".
13 § 2. The New York State thruway authority shall provide for the
14 installation and maintenance of adequate signing on the thruway in both
15 directions of the section of the thruway system as designated as the
16 "Western New York Veterans Memorial Highway" pursuant to paragraph (b)
17 of subdivision 1 of section 356-a of the public authorities law as added
18 by section one of this act. However, to avoid confusion and to limit
19 any possible disruption of commerce, the designation called for pursuant
20 to section one of this act shall be one of ceremonial nature and the
21 official name of such section of the thruway system shall not be changed
22 as a result of this act.
23 § 3. This act shall take effect immediately.
