STATE OF NEW YORK ________________________________________________________________________ 11108 IN ASSEMBLY November 6, 2020 ___________ Introduced by COMMITTEE ON RULES -- (at request of M. of A. Hevesi) -- read once and referred to the Committee on Social Services AN ACT to amend the social services law, in relation to providing inter- net access to all individuals receiving temporary housing assistance The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 17 of the social services law is amended by adding 2 a new subdivision (l) to read as follows: 3 (l) require that each local social services district shall provide 4 internet access to all individuals receiving temporary housing assist- 5 ance in such district. For purposes of this subdivision, temporary hous- 6 ing assistance shall include but not be limited to, a family shelter, a 7 shelter for adults, a domestic violence shelter, a runaway and homeless 8 youth shelter, or a safe house for refugees. 9 § 2. Section 153 of the social services law is amended by adding a new 10 subdivision 13 to read as follows: 11 13. Notwithstanding any other provision of law to the contrary, one 12 hundred percent of the cost for the expense incurred for local social 13 services districts to provide internet access as required by subdivision 14 (l) of section seventeen of this chapter shall be reimbursed by the 15 state. 16 § 3. This act shall take effect on the thirtieth day after it shall 17 have become a law. Effective immediately, the addition, amendment and/or 18 repeal of any rule or regulation necessary for the implementation of 19 this act on its effective date are authorized to be made and completed 20 on or before such effective date.
