Senate Resolution No. 517 BY: Senator GAUGHRAN HONORING Anthony Edelman upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the LEADER AWARD by the Girl Scouts of Nassau County WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Anthony Edelman upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the LEADER AWARD by the Girl Scouts of Nassau County to be celebrated at its 100th Anniversary Gala on Thursday, March 14, 2019, at The Garden City Hotel, Garden City, New York; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. serves girls and adults in Nassau County, New York, a suburban community of New York City; programs and girl-led community service opportunities engage girls in discovering themselves, connecting with others, and taking action to make the world a better place; and WHEREAS, A resident of Hicksville, New York, Anthony J. Edelman is currently serving a second term as the Executive Vice President of Girl Scouts of Nassau County's Board of Directors, after previously serving three consecutive terms as a Member-at-Large; and WHEREAS, This extraordinary man has been a member of Girl Scouts for more than 17 years, volunteering in many different leadership roles and assignments within his daughter's troop and Hicksville Service Unit; he is also a recipient of the Girl Scout Appreciation and Honor Pins; and WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to his community, Anthony Edelman served as a Trustee and President of the Hicksville Union Free School District Board of Education, and as an elected member of the Nassau Suffolk School Board Association Executive Committee; and WHEREAS, Anthony Edelman has also served as Trustee for the Hicksville Public Library; a C.E.R.T. volunteer for the Nassau County Office of Emergency Management; a mentor for Project Grad; member of the National Association of Purchasing Managers LI Affiliate Board of Directors, where he served as Secretary, President, and Director of National Affairs; and is a Past President of Bethpage Federal Credit Union Scholarship Foundation; and WHEREAS, In addition, he maintains active participation at Our Lady of Mercy in Hicksville, and is involved in a variety of leadership roles within various fraternal organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, where he served as Grand Knight of the Bellmore Council, and District Deputy for the NYS Council; and WHEREAS, A graduate of the University of Phoenix with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, Anthony Edelman is an Assistant Vice President at Bethpage Federal Credit Union, a community-based, full-service financial institution; and WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individual for the benefit of others which Anthony Edelman has displayed throughout his life; and WHEREAS, It has always been the objective of this Legislative Body to honor and support those individuals who have displayed their commitment to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this tribute to Anthony Edelman, that future generations may know and appreciate his admirable character, his many benevolent deeds, and the respect and esteem in which he is held by his peers; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Anthony Edelman upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the LEADER AWARD by the Girl Scouts of Nassau County; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Anthony Edelman.
