        HONORING  Cathy  O'Reilly upon the occasion of her
        designation as recipient of the RISK-TAKER AWARD  by
        the Girl Scouts of Nassau County

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the  maintenance  of  high  standards  in  their
profession,  certainly  have  earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Cathy  O'Reilly upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the
RISK-TAKER AWARD by the Girl Scouts of Nassau County to be celebrated at
its 100th Anniversary Gala on Thursday, March 14, 2019,  at  The  Garden
City Hotel, Garden City, New York; and

  WHEREAS,  Girl Scouts of Nassau County, Inc. serves girls and adults
in Nassau County, New York, a  suburban  community  of  New  York  City;
programs  and  girl-led  community service opportunities engage girls in
discovering themselves, connecting with others,  and  taking  action  to
make the world a better place; and

  WHEREAS,  Cathy  O'Reilly has been active with Girl Scouts of Nassau
County since 2006, having served three terms as  a  Member-at-Large  for
the  Board  of  Directors,  and  one  term  as  a  member of the Council
Nominating Committee; she is presently serving her fourth  term  on  the
Board of Directors; and

  WHEREAS,  For  the  past  26 years, Cathy O'Reilly has been employed
with DHL Express, where she currently serves as  Manager  of  Commercial
Air Aviation and Helicopter Operations in both Chicago and New York; and

  WHEREAS,  Under  the  able leadership of Cathy O'Reilly, DHL Express
has provided the international logistics expertise for the last 13 years
for Operation Cookie - the delivery of Girl Scout Cookies to members  of
the United States military serving abroad; and

  WHEREAS,  Furthermore, this extraordinary woman is the driving force
behind the 15-year-strong DHL Operation  Holiday  Cheer,  in  which  DHL
Express  delivers  live Christmas trees from Dees' Nursery in Oceanside,
New York, to United States military serving in the Middle East; and

  WHEREAS, In 2008, Cathy O'Reilly  accepted  Girl  Scouts  of  Nassau
County's  Making  a  Difference  for  the  Youth of Long Island Award on
behalf of DHL Express; and

  WHEREAS, Cathy O'Reilly's volunteer service has been  recognized  by
all  branches  of  the  United  States military, the Veterans of Foreign
Wars, and many local  organizations;  additionally,  she  is  the  proud
recipient of the 2015 Ellis Island Medal of Honor Award; and

  WHEREAS,  A  true  asset  to  society, Cathy O'Reilly was one of the
first volunteers for the Lustgarten Foundation, which  is  committed  to
scientific  and  medical  research  related to the diagnosis, treatment,
cure and prevention of pancreatic cancer; and

  WHEREAS, A resident of Atlantic Beach, New York, Cathy O'Reilly is a
graduate of St. John's University; and

  WHEREAS,  Rare  indeed  is  the  impressive  dedication  shown by an
individual for the benefit of others which Cathy O'Reilly has  displayed
throughout her life; and

  WHEREAS,  It  has always been the objective of this Legislative Body
to  honor  and  support  those  individuals  who  have  displayed  their
commitment  to the betterment of their communities, and it is the intent
of this Legislative Body to inscribe upon its records, this  tribute  to
Cathy  O'Reilly,  that  future  generations  may know and appreciate her
admirable character, her many benevolent  deeds,  and  the  respect  and
esteem in which she is held by her peers; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Cathy O'Reilly upon the occasion of her designation  as  recipient
of  the  RISK-TAKER AWARD by the Girl Scouts of Nassau County; and be it
further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Cathy O'Reilly.
