        HONORING  Mark  Golden  upon  the  occasion of his
        designation  as  recipient  of   the   Distinguished
        Citizen  of the Year Award by the Chenango District,
        Baden-Powell Council, Boy Scouts of America

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take  note  of
and  publicly  acknowledge individuals who have distinguished themselves
through their exemplary careers, accomplishments, and  purposeful  lives
of service to their community; and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Mark Golden upon the occasion of his designation  as  recipient  of  the
Distinguished  Citizen  of  the  Year  Award  by  the Chenango District,
Baden-Powell Council, Boy Scouts of America, to  be  celebrated  with  a
Dinner  Banquet  on  Thursday,  May  9, 2019, at the Canasawacta Country
Club, Norwich, New York; and

  WHEREAS, A man of singular distinction, Mark Golden has  continually
demonstrated   extreme   competence,   extraordinary  intelligence,  and
diligent leadership in his unwavering service to both his community  and
profession   and   consequently   has  been  designated  for  this  most
prestigious honor; and

  WHEREAS, Mark Golden, CEO and Co-founder of  Golden  Artist  Colors,
began  the  company in 1980, with four employees, his father Sam, mother
Adele, and wife Barbara; and

  WHEREAS, Originating in a cow barn on his parents'  retirement  home
in  rural  Columbus,  New  York, Golden Artist Colors made and delivered
custom paint colors for artists in Manhattan; and

  WHEREAS, Since its humble beginnings, Golden Artist Colors has grown
to a full-time staff of  220,  with  facilities  in  both  Columbus  and
Norwich, New York, and selling products in over 60 countries; and

  WHEREAS,  In  1997,  Mark  Golden established The Sam & Adele Golden
Foundation for the Arts to honor his parents; with the mission to  serve
as a significant resource for visual artists, the Foundation has donated
to numerous artists and art organizations since its inception; and

  WHEREAS,  Additionally,  in  2010, the Foundation began constructing
the Golden Residence, a 10,000-square-foot living  and  work  space  for
invited artists which opened in 2012; and

  WHEREAS,  The  recipient  of  countless  awards  and accolades, Mark
Golden was selected as the 1996 Small Business Person of  the  Year  for
New York, and recognized by President Bill Clinton for his activities in
creating  a  business  exemplifying the spirit of Corporate Citizenship,
providing a work environment which values all employees; and

  WHEREAS, In 2005, Mark Golden received the  NYFA  Inspiration  Award
and  was  honored  by  the Manufacturers Association of Central New York

with a Wall of Fame Award; one year later, he received an award from the
American Institute for Conservation, recognizing  his  contributions  to
the art conservation field; and

  WHEREAS,  Under  the able leadership of Mark Golden, Golden Artistic
Colors was recognized by Inc. Magazine in 2011, as one  of  the  top  50
small businesses to work for; this vital business was also recognized by
Americans for the Arts as a top 10 contributor to the arts in the United
States in 2012; and

  WHEREAS,  In  2014  Mark  Golden received an honorary Doctorate from
Colgate University for his tireless dedication and work  in  support  of
the local and international arts community; and

  WHEREAS,  Furthermore,  this  extraordinary man was awarded the 2018
Lifetime  Achievement  Award  from  the  International   Art   Materials
Association  (NAMTA), and the 2019 Center for Arts Education Champion of
Arts Education Award for being a visionary in the field; and

  WHEREAS, It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that  when
individuals  of  such  noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the  citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Mark Golden upon the occasion of his designation as  recipient  of
the  Distinguished  Citizen  of the Year Award by the Chenango District,
Baden-Powell Council, Boy Scouts of America; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Mark Golden.
