Assembly Resolution No. 435

        HONORING  Vernon  Tryon  upon  the occasion of his
        designation for special recognition by the New  York
        State Office for the Aging on May 21, 2019

  WHEREAS,  Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge
to the increasingly active roles they play  in  today's  society;  their
past  contributions  and  future  participation are a vital part of, and
valuable asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Vernon Tryon
upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition by the  New
York  State  Office  for  the Aging at its Annual Older New Yorkers' Day
Celebration on Tuesday, May 21, 2019, at the Hart Theatre Lounge in  The
Egg, Albany, New York; and

  WHEREAS, Each May, the New York State Office for the Aging pauses to
acknowledge  the outstanding contributions made by older citizens during
National Older Americans Month; and

  WHEREAS, Members of older generations have helped  build  and  shape
our  Nation  to  be  the  greatest  in the world; they have defended our
freedoms and values to ensure that those who come after  them  may  have
better  lives; nowhere in the Nation is the legacy of their efforts more
visible and more a part of the lives of all citizens than  here  in  the
State of New York; and

  WHEREAS, Vernon Tryon embodies the true meaning of volunteering with
his compassion and dedication to make society a better place to live; he
is  a  true  humanitarian  with his work with Oswego Rotary Club and The
Salvation Army Corps; and

  WHEREAS, Vernon Tryon can be seen in the forefront of  any  project,
whether  it  is  bringing clean water to developing countries or helping
eradicate polio; he is always the first  to  volunteer  with  his  time,
resources and knowledge; and

  WHEREAS,  Born on September 21, 1936, in the small town of Boylston,
New York, Vernon Tryon grew up on the farm on which his  father  worked;
he  graduated  from  Philadelphia  High  School  and  attended the State
University of New York at Oswego; and

  WHEREAS, Vernon Tryon has lived most of his life in New York  except
for  when  he  attended  the  University  of Maryland, where he earned a
master's degree; and

  WHEREAS, His first experience with volunteerism was at the church he
attended while living in Maryland; and

  WHEREAS, Vernon and his wife, June, made their home in  Oswego,  New
York,  where  he  pursued  his  career  as a Professor in Technology for
almost 40 years; and

  WHEREAS, Currently, Vernon Tryon resides  at  Springside  at  Seneca
Hill  Independent  Living where he is President of the Resident Council;
he and June have been married for 59 years and  together  they  are  the
proud  parents  of  two  sons,  and  the  loving  grandparents  of  four
grandchildren; and

  WHEREAS, Vernon Tryon, considering his 60 years of volunteerism, has
these words of wisdom for anyone looking to volunteer; "First, determine
what  you  are  passionate  about  and  if an organization mission/goals
complement your beliefs. Second, make sure you have the time  to  devote
to   the  organization  Third,  call  the  organizations  you  might  be
interested in to discuss volunteering with them."; and

  WHEREAS, Rare indeed  is  the  impressive  dedication  shown  by  an
individual  for  the  benefit of others which Vernon Tryon has displayed
throughout his life; and

  WHEREAS, Vernon Tryon,  a  very  active  and  industrious  man,  has
inspired  and  enriched  the  lives  of  those  he  serves  through  his
volunteerism,  generously  sharing  the  wisdom  gained  over  years  of
experiencing life to its fullest; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Vernon Tryon upon the occasion  of  his  designation  for  special
recognition  by the New York State Office for the Aging on May 21, 2019;
and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to Vernon Tryon.
