Senate Resolution No. 1572

        HONORING  Liza  Johnson  upon  the occasion of her
        designation as recipient of the Teenager of the Year
        Award by the Colonie Elks Lodge on May 23, 2019

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to act, in accord
with its long-standing traditions, commending the youth  of  today,  and
leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the
ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Liza Johnson
upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Teenager of the
Year  Award  by  the  Colonie Elks Lodge to be celebrated at an event on
Thursday, May 23, 2019, at the Colonie Town Hall; and

  WHEREAS, Liza Johnson was selected  for  this  auspicious  award  in
recognition  of  her  strong  academic  performance,  her service to her
school, and her commitment to the community; and

  WHEREAS, A senior at Shaker High School, Liza  Johnson  is  actively
involved  in  numerous activities including student government, World of
Difference Club, Colonie Youth Court, Key Club, and Model United Nations
Club where she serves as President; and

  WHEREAS, During her sophomore year, Liza Johnson attended  the  HOBY
Leadership  Conference  which  has  allowed her to expand her skills and
methods as a leader; and

  WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious high school career, Liza Johnson
has consecutively been named to the High Honor Roll list, and  has  been
the recipient of several National Spanish Exam Medals; and

  WHEREAS, In addition, Liza Johnson has been a valuable member of the
tennis, and indoor and outdoor track teams; for her outstanding efforts,
she  was  named  a  Scholar  Athlete,  and was presented with the tennis
team's Sportsmanship Award; and

  WHEREAS,  Liza  Johnson  is  an  active  part  of   her   community,
volunteering  her  time and energies to numerous organizations including
the Shaker Food Pantry, Equinox, Cinderella's Closest, ENL Tutoring  and
Catwalk for a Cause; and

  WHEREAS,  When she is not at school or helping someone, Liza Johnson
works at Bellini's Italian Eatery, serves as a  referee  for  LCSC,  and
plays an instrument in the Siena Chamber Orchestra; and

  WHEREAS,  In  achieving  this high honor, Liza Johnson may take just
pride in the inspiration and contribution to the  spirit  of  excellence
she brings to her family, friends, community and school; and

  WHEREAS,  Liza  Johnson's  sense of civic duty and her commitment to
others represents  the  best  development  of  the  potential  which  is
inherent in our most precious resource, our youth; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Liza Johnson upon the occasion of her designation as recipient  of
the  Teenager  of  the  Year  Award by the Colonie Elks Lodge on May 23,
2019; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Liza Johnson.
