Senate Resolution No. 1652 BY: Senator TEDISCO HONORING Gale Knull upon the occasion of being inducted into the Schenectady School District Athletic Hall of Fame WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest level of personal achievement; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Gale Knull upon the occasion of being inducted into the Schenectady School District Athletic Hall of Fame on Monday, September 16, 2019, at Glen Sanders Mansion, Scotia, New York; and WHEREAS, Gale Knull was an outstanding offensive lineman and hard-hitting linebacker on the undefeated 1967 Mont Pleasant High School Football Team which was ranked No. 1 in New York State; and WHEREAS, During his illustrious high school football career, Gale Knull was instrumental in Mont Pleasant capturing the Class A League Championship each year, tying with Linton in 1966; and WHEREAS, Gale Knull was the proud recipient of the Thom McAn Bronze Shoe Award in both 1966 and 1967, and was the first junior to win this auspicious award; and WHEREAS, A 1967 Parade All-American High School Football Team member, Gale Knull was also named to the Coach and Athlete Magazine High School All-American Football Team; and WHEREAS, In addition to football, Gale Knull was an undefeated wrestler as a senior at Mont Pleasant High School with an overall record of 27-0, as well as a 1968 Sectional and State Wrestling Champion; he also lettered in track & field; and WHEREAS, As a three-sport athlete at St. Lawrence University (SLU), Gale Knull participated in football, wrestling and lacrosse; he is a three-time SLU football MVP, team captain and Most Valuable Wrestler as a senior, and a three-time ICAC Conference wrestling champion; furthermore, he finished his collegiate wrestling career with a 53-1 record; and WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Gale Knull won the Coaches' Discretion Award in both football and wrestling, and was named the 1972 Outstanding Senior Athlete at SLU; and WHEREAS, A member of the St. Lawrence University Athletic Hall of Fame and the Mont Pleasant Sports Hall of Fame, Gale Knull has served as a wrestling coach at Union College and Saratoga High School; and WHEREAS, Gale Knull has been an inspiration to countless sports fans, as well as to the community-at-large, and accordingly merits recognition and applause for his tremendous passion for the game and his competitive spirit; and WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when individuals of such outstanding athletic accomplishments are brought to our attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to honor Gale Knull upon the occasion of being inducted into the Schenectady School District Athletic Hall of Fame, and for his extraordinary accomplishments which were a tribute to his skill, dedication and commitment; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Gale Knull.
