Assembly Resolution No. 519 BY: M. of A. Crouch COMMENDING SUNY Morrisville State College upon the occasion of celebrating the 50th Anniversary of its Norwich Campus on June 20, 2019 WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring pursuit of excellence in higher education for the youth of this noble Empire State; and WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and fully in accord with its long-standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend SUNY Morrisville State College upon the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of its Norwich Campus, to be celebrated at the Annual Norwich Community Dinner on Thursday, June 20, 2019; and WHEREAS, For 50 years, the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus has strived to put its students' determination to work; and WHEREAS, Located 30 miles south of Morrisville in downtown Norwich, New York, the Norwich Campus proudly provides quality, personalized education and workforce development to residents and employers of Chenango County and south central New York; and WHEREAS, The Campus' Roger W. Follett Hall provides its students with a supportive and technologically infused learning environment which complements a variety of associate degree offerings in industrious career and technical areas, as well as liberal arts transfer programs; and WHEREAS, The Everett A. Gilmour Memorial Library offers its students access to all SUNY Morrisville Library electronic journal, newspaper and magazine article databases, and allows them to request books directly from the Morrisville campus library; and WHEREAS, A recent partnership with the nearby Wild Owl Cafe means Norwich Campus students can find affordable, healthy meal options right on campus; other amenities, including housing, shopping, fitness centers, and cultural and recreational activities, are conveniently located just a short distance from campus; and WHEREAS, The SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus is proud to serve Chenango County and other counties in south central New York through a variety of community initiatives; Chenango County high school students can earn college credits to accelerate their college experience by taking courses at the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus through the Morrisville EDge Program; and WHEREAS, In addition, the SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus offers college-level courses at various area high schools and BOCES programs, and the Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) works closely with the Norwich Campus to help students gain insight into the admissions, application and financial aid process for secondary education, while also providing a link to other outside services and agencies where students gain social skills, life skills, employment preparation and knowledge about living a healthy lifestyle; and WHEREAS, The SUNY Morrisville Norwich Campus provides the community with a variety of workforce development opportunities, and has partnered with Golden Artist Colors, Inc., located in Berlin, New York, and the LPN to RN program at Bassett Medical Center, located in Cooperstown, New York; and WHEREAS, Today, approximately 600 students are enrolled at the Norwich Campus each semester, with 15 degree programs and approximately 90 classes offered during the day, evening and weekends; in the past 30 years, SUNY Morrisville's Norwich facility has served more than 21,000 full- and part-time students; and WHEREAS, Under the visionary guidance of SUNY Morrisville President David Rogers and Lindsey G. Lefevre, Director of the Norwich Campus, SUNY Morrisville State College stands proud and prominent, always looking to the future and the needs of those it serves; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to commend SUNY Morrisville State College upon the occasion of celebrating the 50th Anniversary of its Norwich Campus, noting the propriety of its goals, the constancy of its commitment and the significance of its accomplishments in preparing the youth of today and leaders of tomorrow; and be it further RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to David Rogers, President, SUNY Morrisville State College; and Lindsey G. Lefevre, Director of the Norwich Campus.
