Senate Resolution No. 1893 BY: Senator THOMAS CONGRATULATING Mariah Cepeda upon the occasion of receiving the Girl Scout Silver Award, Cadette Scouting's highest award and Girl Scouting's second highest achievement WHEREAS, Mariah Cepeda was honored with the Girl Scout Silver Award, Cadette Scouting's highest award and Girl Scouting's second highest achievement; the ceremony will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Farmingdale High School; and WHEREAS, Mariah Cepeda is a member of the Hardscrabble Association of Girl Scouts, Troop 3191; and WHEREAS, An eighth grade student-athlete at Howitt Middle School, Mariah Cepeda is Treasurer of the National Junior Honor Society and a member of the volleyball and softball teams; in addition, she participated in the NYSSMA solo festivals for the past five years and was selected for the All County Division Band and Orchestra; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has cultivated in our Nation's young people the goals of building solid values of sisterhood and the importance of working with others, stimulating both mind and body, instilling pride, and encouraging community service and success; and WHEREAS, Girl Scouting has expanded the horizons of the countless hundreds of thousands who have participated in Scouting programs which have made Scouting an American and international institution; and WHEREAS, Mariah Cepeda completed a Silver Award community service project which she planned, developed and executed; and WHEREAS, For her project entitled, "Enhance Information for Farmingdale Aquatics Swimmers and Parents," Mariah Cepeda, along with her fellow Scout Fiona Andrew, created a brochure, video and mentoring program for Farmingdale Aquatics, a competitive swim club she has been a part of since she was seven years old; and WHEREAS, The Silver Award is earned over a two-year period; it is tangible evidence of Mariah Cepeda's high character and commitment, and is a harbinger of her future service to her community, New York State and our Nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to congratulate Mariah Cepeda, recognizing her achievement in earning the Girl Scout Silver Award, and to wish her continued success in all her future endeavors; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Mariah Cepeda.
