        COMMEMORATING the 100th Anniversary of the Corning
        Country Club

  WHEREAS,  It is the custom of this Legislative Body that the quality
of life of the citizens of New York State is  greatly  enriched  by  its
exceptional cultural, educational and recreational facilities; and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate  the  100th  Anniversary  of  the Corning Country Club to be
recognized with a six-day-long centennial celebration,  kicking  off  on
Monday,  July  22,  2019,  and  culminating  with  a Legends Pro-Am Golf
Shootout on Saturday, July 27, 2019; and

  WHEREAS, A number of players from the  LPGA  Legends  Tour  will  be
participating  in the shootout, including two-time LPGA Tour winner Gail
Graham, 1996 and 1997 Corning Classic Champion Rosie Jones, 27-time LPGA
Tour winner Jane Blalock, 1998 Corning  winner  Tammie  (Green)  Parker,
1986  Corning  Champion  Laurie  Rinker,  and  World Golf Hall of Famers
Sandra Haynie, Jan Stephenson and Pat Bradley, who  won  at  Corning  in
1990; and

  WHEREAS,  The  Corning  Country  Club  was  established in 1919, and
designed by Thomas Winston,  a  Scottish  born  greenskeeper  who  later
pursued  golf  course  design;  the land which was acquired for the golf
course included a farm house; this structure was modified and became the
very first clubhouse which was located behind today's  number  nine  tee
box; and

  WHEREAS, While in the midst of renovation in 1951, the clubhouse was
destroyed  in  a  fire; a second clubhouse was built on a different site
and was opened to rave reviews in July of 1952; the then modern facility
was much larger and offered more room to meet the members' needs; and

  WHEREAS, In 1999, the second clubhouse was demolished  to  insert  a
new  clubhouse,  which  can  accommodate  functions up to 180 people and
remains on the property today; and

  WHEREAS, Among Corning Country Club's most notable  events  was  the
LPGA  Corning Classic, an annual golf tournament for professional female
golfers on the LPGA Tour which took place every year from  1979  through
2009; and

  WHEREAS,  The  Corning  Classic  was one of the longest running LPGA
tournaments, and many of its participants recognize Corning,  New  York,
for its contribution to the history of women's athletics; and

  WHEREAS, Furthermore, proceeds for the LPGA Corning Classic exceeded
3.8 million dollars since its debut at the Corning Country Club in 1979;
and

  WHEREAS,  Over  its  distinguished  100-year  history,  the  Corning
Country Club has demonstrated continuous service to  the  residents  and
communities which it serves; and

  WHEREAS,  The  success  of  the  Corning  Country  Club is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its dedicated staff, whose involvement is,
and always has been,  characterized  by  an  impressive  commitment,  an
unbridled  enthusiasm,  and  an uncompromising standard of excellence in
all endeavors on behalf of the organization and the community it serves;
and

  WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity  for  this
Legislative  Body  to  recognize  and pay tribute to the Corning Country
Club; and

  WHEREAS, Steeped in a proud and distinguished history,  the  Corning
Country  Club  may take just pride in its purposeful growth, as it looks
forward to continuing to serve the recreational needs of the  community;
now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Corning Country Club; and be it
further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the Corning Country Club.
