        COMMEMORATING  the  54th  Anniversary  of Sing Tao
        Daily New York

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute  to
those  illustrious  journalistic  entities  which  have  diligently  and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world  to  their  readers;
and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
commemorate the 54th Anniversary of Sing Tao Daily New York; and

  WHEREAS,  On  August 1, 2019, Sing Tao Daily New York will celebrate
its 54th year of journalistic contribution and service  to  the  Chinese
American community on the east coast of the United States; and

  WHEREAS,  Having  opened  its  first  overseas  office in the United
States in 1965, Sing Tao Daily is the  only  Chinese  media  corporation
publishing on four continents; and

  WHEREAS,  Sing Tao Daily news engages long-time and recently arrived
Chinese Americans, as well as students and visitors from China,  Taiwan,
Hong Kong and Southeast Asia; and

  WHEREAS, Sing Tao Daily news is committed to charitable endeavors in
the  arts,  cultural activities, and disaster relief in cooperation with
civic  and  social  groups  in  cooperation  with  the  Chinese-American
community; and

  WHEREAS,  While seeking to create a link to the Chinese homeland for
the overseas Chinese community, it also informs Chinese Americans  about
the culture and events of their new home; and

  WHEREAS,  With  13  local editions in major cities across the globe,
Sing Tao Daily seeks to forge strong ties between its  publications  and
the Chinese communities it serves; and

  WHEREAS, Sing Tao Daily New York, which has received numerous awards
including  the IPPIES Award from the Independent Press Association, is a
highly acclaimed ethnic and community publication; and

  WHEREAS, It is  with  great  pleasure  that  this  Legislative  Body
acknowledges  Sing  Tao Daily's distinguished journalist history and its
outstanding  record  of   growth   and   achievement,   recognizes   its
contributions  to the local and State economies, and extends its highest
commendation to the newspaper and its employees, fully  confident  that,
in its future, it will enjoy the same success which has so characterized
its past; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 54th Anniversary of Sing Tao Daily New York; and  be  it
further


  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Sing Tao Daily New York.
