        COMMENDING  Anthony A. Maier posthumously upon the
        occasion of his designation for special  recognition
        by Rensselaer County at its Honor a Deceased Veteran
        Ceremony on August 12, 2019

  WHEREAS,  Members  of the Armed Services from the State of New York,
who have served so  valiantly  and  honorably  in  wars  in  which  this
country's  freedom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace
in peace- time, deserve a special salute; and

  WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commend  those
who  have  served in times of active conflict, as well as those who have
served in times of peace; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commend  Anthony  A.  Maier  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of   his
designation  for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor a
Deceased Veteran Ceremony on Monday, August 12, 2019; and

  WHEREAS, Born on September 2, 1924, Anthony "Andy" A. Maier was  the
son  of  the  late  Frank  Maier and Louise Schollhorn Maier; raised and
educated in Troy, New York, he was a graduate of Troy High School; and

  WHEREAS, Anthony A. Maier proudly served his country as a member  of
the  United  States  Army  during  World  War II, and as a member of the
United States Navy during the Korean War; and

  WHEREAS, For his meritorious  service,  Anthony  A.  Maier  was  the
recipient of the American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern
Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal; and

  WHEREAS,  Anthony  A. Maier and the former Helen Carroll were united
in marriage in Troy, New York in 1955,  and  together  they  raised  two
sons;  he  was  a self-employed and very gifted remodeling contractor in
the local community for 50 years; and

  WHEREAS,  With  a  steadfast  and  unwavering  commitment   to   his
community,  Anthony  A.  Maier  was a lifelong member of the Troy German
Hall Association, where he served as president and board member for many
years; he was also a founding member of the Brunswick Elks  Club  and  a
member of the Lansingburgh Historical Society; and

  WHEREAS,  Furthermore, he was a board member and former president of
the Lansingburgh Rotary Club, where he received the Paul  Harris  Fellow
Award,  and board member of the Lansingburgh Boys & Girls Club, where he
received the Frank W. Kennedy Memorial Award in 2004; and

  WHEREAS, Devoted to his fellow veterans, Anthony A. Maier was former
president and member of the Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge,  Hudson
Valley Chapter; and

  WHEREAS,  Anthony  A.  Maier  was  a  communicant of St. Augustine's
Church, where he served as an usher for several years; he  was  a  truly
gentle  soul  loved  by  all who knew him and will be remembered for his
profound generosity; and

  WHEREAS,  Anthony A. Maier died on May 6, 2012, at the age of 87; he
is survived by his two sons, Stephen and Christopher (Elizabeth);  three
grandchildren,  Kristen, Thomas and Eric; two brothers, Paul and Ernest;
two sisters, Marie and Helen; and several nieces  and  nephews;  he  was
predeceased by two sisters, Frances and Dorothy; and

  WHEREAS, Residents of this great State must never forget the courage
with  which these men and women served their country, and must recognize
that no greater debt is owed than that owed  to  those  who  gave  their
lives  for  their beloved Nation and to those who continue to be missing
in action; and

  WHEREAS, Having exhibited his patriotism both at  home  and  abroad,
Anthony  A.  Maier  demonstrated  his  love  for  his country and merits
forevermore, the highest respect of his State and Nation; and

  WHEREAS, Our Nation's veterans deserve to be  recognized,  commended
and thanked by the people of the State of New York for their service and
for their dedication to their communities, their State and their Nation;
now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend  Anthony  A.  Maier  posthumously  upon  the  occasion  of   his
designation  for special recognition by Rensselaer County at its Honor a
Deceased Veteran Ceremony; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted to the family of Anthony A. Maier.
