        COMMEMORATING  the 200th Anniversary of the Lowell
        United Methodist Church of Westmoreland, New York on
        September 20, 2020

  WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social  and
educational  benefits  they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and

  WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this  Nation  to  pay
tribute  to  those  institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and

  WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern  and  in  full  accord  with  its
long-standing  traditions,  this  Legislative  Body  is  justly proud to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the Lowell United Methodist  Church
of  Westmoreland,  New  York,  celebrated  with  a historically accurate
service followed by a myriad of events on Sunday,  September  20,  2020;
and

  WHEREAS,  Throughout  the  storied  history of New York State, there
have emerged among its noble  institutions  certain  houses  of  worship
which  have  become distinguished through their spiritual leadership and
commitment to service, and therefore warrant special recognition; Lowell
United Methodist Church is one such institution; and

  WHEREAS, The Lowell  United  Methodist  Church  traces  its  honored
history  to  the founder of Methodism, John Wesley, who famously stated,
"Give me a dozen spirit-filled preachers and I will change  the  world";
and

  WHEREAS, Established in 1820, the Lowell United Methodist Church was
sold  when  its  membership  declined  and  another  was  built  shortly
thereafter when the church was revived; that building was then torn down
to make room for something more modern, though  the  replacement  burned
down in 1930; this led to the construction of the current church at 5840
Lowell Road; and

  WHEREAS, Under the able leadership of Reverend Frederick Bailey, the
Lowell  United Methodist Church now stands on the threshold of tomorrow,
prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades,  while  retaining
that spiritual resolve which has so characterized its glorious past; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
such venerable institutions as the Lowell  United  Methodist  Church  of
Westmoreland,  New  York,  commemorating  a  milestone  of  its glorious
history, and recognizing its faithful ministry on behalf of  the  member
of its parish; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
acknowledge and pay just tribute to the Lowell United  Methodist  Church
upon the joyous occasion of its 200th Anniversary, noting with gratitude
and  respect  the  ministry  it  caringly  provides  on  behalf  of  its
congregation; and be it further


  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to The Reverend Frederick Bailey,  Lowell  United  Methodist
Church.
