Assembly Resolution No. 147

        COMMEMORATING  the 3,000th performance of NEWSical
        The Musical

  WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention
to individuals and organizations that devote their time and energies  to
the cultural enrichment of the Empire State; and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing practices, this Legislative Body is honored to commemorate
the 3,000th performance of the off-Broadway production of  NEWSical  The
Musical at Theatre Row on West 42nd Street in Manhattan, New York; and

  WHEREAS,  NEWSical  The  Musical is a family-run production that has
proven its enduring popularity with audiences in New York City for  nine
years; and

  WHEREAS,  NEWSical  The  Musical  has  delighted and entertained New
Yorkers with its musical mockery of "all the news that's fit to  spoof,"
lampooning  institutions  ranging from the highest office in the land to
the depths of "reality TV"; and

  WHEREAS, In 2011, NEWSical The Musical was the first-ever  recipient
of  the  Off-Broadway  Alliance  Award  for  Best  Musical, and has been
nominated for multiple Drama Desk Awards over its historic run; and

  WHEREAS, NEWSical The Musical is the third  longest-running  musical
revue  in  New  York  history,  the  fifth  longest-running off-Broadway
musical in history, the 10th longest-running off-Broadway production  of
any kind in history, and the 29th longest-running production of any kind
in New York history; and

  WHEREAS,  Through  the  years,  NEWSical  The  Musical  has welcomed
numerous prominent guest stars  to  its  cast  including  Broadway  star
Andrea McArdle, singer LaToya Jackson, Emmy Award-winning actress Jackee
Harry,  Saturday  Night Live comedian Cheri Oteri, TV personality Carson
Kressley, and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body  recognizes  the  importance  of  the
performing  arts, which act to inspire, enlighten, and unify people from
all  cultural  backgrounds  through  the  transcendent  power  of  human
expression; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  custom  of  this  Legislative Body that, when
organizations of such  extraordinary  achievement  are  brought  to  our
attention,  they  should be celebrated and recognized by all citizens of
this great state; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in  its  delibrations  to
commemorate  the  3,000th performance of NEWSical The Musical; and be it
further

  RESOLVED, That copies of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted  to  the producers, director, cast, and crew of NEWSical The
Musical.
