Assembly Resolution No. 451

        MEMORIALIZING Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim
        Wednesday,  May  29,  2019,  as  the  New York State
        Assembly Legislative Disabilities Awareness Day

  WHEREAS, The New York State  Assembly  Task  Force  on  People  with
Disabilities  and the New York State Assembly Committee on Mental Health
are jointly sponsoring the Assembly's Legislative Disabilities Awareness
Day; and

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that persons  with
disabilities,  their  families  and advocates deserve our recognition as
they realize the goals of integration, independence and equality in  our
communities and society at large; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  intent  of this Legislative Body to recognize
persons with disabilities, focusing on the  benefits  of  their  social,
economic, educational and other contributions to society; and

  WHEREAS, It is the purpose of Legislative Disabilities Awareness Day
to  provide  New  York's  disability  community  with  an opportunity to
educate legislators, their staffs and the general public on  the  issues
important   to   them,   and,   at  the  same  time,  to  highlight  the
accomplishments of advocates and persons with disabilities; and

  WHEREAS,  Legislative  Disabilities  Awareness  Day  also   provides
individuals   with   an   opportunity  to  acknowledge,  understand  and
participate in the legislative process; and

  WHEREAS, Legislative Disabilities Awareness Day will  conclude  with
this  Legislative  Body considering a package of legislation significant
to people with disabilities, which is reflective of the concerns of  the
disability community; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo  to  proclaim  Wednesday,  May  29,
2019,  as the New York State Assembly Legislative Disabilities Awareness
Day; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That copies of this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed,  be
transmitted  to  The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of
New York, and to selected representatives of people with disabilities.
