        CONGRATULATING Dr. Paul M. Russo upon the occasion
        of  being named a 2018 Top Doctor, and the recipient
        of the 2018 Outstanding Teacher of  the  Year  Award
        after  many  years  of  distinguished  service  as a
        Urologic Surgeon at Sidney Kimmel  Center,  Memorial
        Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

  WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
commend  and  recognize  those  esteemed  individuals within the medical
community for their extraordinary and  sustained  contributions  to  the
progress of medicine and the improvement of life; and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and in full accord with its
long-standing traditions, this  Legislative  Body  is  justly  proud  to
congratulate  Urologic  Surgeon  Dr.  Paul M. Russo upon the occasion of
being named a 2018 Top Doctor by Castle Connolly: New York Magazine, and
as recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Teacher  Award  by  Memorial  Sloan
Kettering, Department of Surgery, Urology Services; and

  WHEREAS,  Paul  M.  Russo  earned  his  medical degree from Columbia
University; he went on to  complete  his  residencies  in  both  General
Surgery  and  Urologic  Surgery at Washington University Medical Center;
and

  WHEREAS, Dr.  Paul  M.  Russo  obtained  a  fellowship  in  Urologic
Oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center before becoming Board
Certified in Urology; and

  WHEREAS,  As  a  urologic  surgeon, Dr. Paul M. Russo specializes in
caring for people with kidney (renal cell) cancer; he treats people with
all stages of the disease; to  date,  he  has  more  than  30  years  of
experience  and  performs  approximately 250 major operations each year;
and

  WHEREAS, With his patients best interest always  his  top  priority,
Dr.  Paul  M.  Russo's mission is to reassure them they are in excellent
hands; between his expertise, which  includes  partial  nephrectomy  for
people  with  smaller  kidney  tumors,  and his experienced and skillful
dedicated team, their care  will  be  customized  to  achieve  the  best
possible outcome; and

  WHEREAS,  In  addition  to caring for patients, Dr. Paul M. Russo is
well-known for his academic work in the field; he leads a research  team
at  Memorial  Sloan  Kettering Cancer Center with surgeons, oncologists,
epidemiologists, pathologists, molecular biologists,  and  radiologists;
and

  WHEREAS,  Dr.  Paul  M.  Russo  and his team work diligently on both
basic science and clinical aspects of kidney  cancer;  members  of  this
brilliant team have published many academic papers and presented at both
national and international meetings; and

  WHEREAS,  Through  his  steadfast efforts, coupled with cutting edge
surgical techniques, Dr. Paul M. Russo is  a  true  pioneer  in  partial
nephrectomy; and

  WHEREAS,  With the easy route never an option, Dr. Paul M. Russo has
successfully saved and improved the lives of countless individuals  from
not only New York but all over the globe, including Commissioner Randall
G. Bluth, New York State Legislative Bill Drafting Commission; and

  WHEREAS,  In  addition  to  his latest achievements, his exceptional
skills have earned him many other awards and accolades  such  as  Castle
Connolly:   New  York  Magazine  Top  Doctors  (2002,  2009,  2011-2012,
2015-2017);  Kidney  Cancer  Association:  Andrew   Novick   Award   for
Excellence  in  Kidney Surgery (2015); Nominee, Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center Junior Faculty Award for Excellence in  Mentoring  (2015);
and US News & World Report: New York City Best Doctors (2004-2018); and

  WHEREAS,   Widely   respected   and  admired  by  his  patients  and
colleagues, Dr.  Paul M. Russo has devoted his career to helping  people
with cancer and holding the lives of entire families together; and

  WHEREAS, Dr. Paul M. Russo is also a role model for medical students
and residents who aspire a career in urologic oncology; and

  WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Mary Sue Brady, who
is also a surgeon, and his children, Grace Brady Russo, Mary Rose Russo,
and  Paul  Brady Russo, who all show him love and support and rejoice in
his countless accomplishments; and

  WHEREAS, Dr. Paul M. Russo enjoys traveling  around  the  world  and
teaching  as  a  visiting  professor  in  many  countries, some of which
include:  Cuba,  Peru,  Argentina,  Brazil,  Ecuador,  Italy,   Ireland,
Germany, Austria, and the Czech Republic; and

  WHEREAS,  Rare  indeed  is  the  occurrence  of such a compassionate
blending of strength, leadership,  intellect,  and  commitment  as  that
demonstrated  by  Dr.  Paul M. Russo over three decades of sacrifice and
dedication to others; and

  WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have  this  opportunity
to  recognize Dr. Paul M. Russo for his long and sustained commitment to
the health and welfare of his  patients,  as  he  continues  to  provide
advanced and outstanding medical services; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED,  That  this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Dr. Paul M. Russo upon the occasion of being named  a  2018
Top  Doctor,  and  the  recipient of the 2018 Outstanding Teacher of the
Year Award after many years  of  distinguished  service  as  a  Urologic
Surgeon at Sidney Kimmel Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center,
New York, New York; and be it further

  RESOLVED,  That  a  copy  of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
transmitted to Dr. Paul M. Russo.
