        HONORING  Rachel  Murat upon the occasion of being
        named the 2020 New York State Teacher of the Year

  WHEREAS, It is the sense of  this  Legislative  Body  to  honor  and
recognize those dedicated individuals, who strive to enhance the quality
of  education for our students, and whose accomplishments, character and
community commitment inspire all citizens of this  great  Empire  State;
and

  WHEREAS,  Attendant  to  such  concern,  and  in  full  accord  with
long-standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Rachel Murat upon the occasion of being selected as the  2020  New  York
State  Teacher of the Year by the New York State Department of Education
for her  excellence  in  the  classroom  and  her  contribution  to  her
community; and

  WHEREAS,  After  graduating from Ohio University, Rachel Murat began
educating the young minds at Maine-Endwell High School in  Endwell,  New
York,  as  a  social  studies  teacher  with  a  focus  in  history  and
government; and

  WHEREAS, In addition to nurturing and  preparing  her  students  for
their  future  endeavors,  Rachel Murat has created numerous programs to
assist all students in  the  district;  in  2010,  she  founded  M-EALS,
Maine-Endwell  Assisting Local Spartans program, a nonprofit food pantry
which  provides  essential  materials  to  more  than  100  families  of
Maine-Endwell students; and

  WHEREAS,  Rachel  Murat  also  founded  the  district's  ninth-grade
mentoring program in 2005, recruiting and  training  older  students  to
mentor them as they transition to high school; and

  WHEREAS,  Furthermore,  in 2013, Rachel Murat created the district's
digital citizenship course which trains  students  how  to  successfully
navigate  the  internet and social-media channels to better educate them
on how to use the technology correctly and safely; and

  WHEREAS, Following in the footsteps of her father, James Beatty, who
was an educator himself in Hamburg, New York, Rachel Murat  is  now  the
New  York State nominee for the 2020 National Teacher of the Year Award;
and

  WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious career with  Maine-Endwell  High
School,  Rachel  Murat  has  shown  time and time again why she is truly
deserving of this award; she has  had  a  positive  influence  on  every
student who has walked those halls; and

  WHEREAS,  This  is  shown  by  the  fact  that  she has received the
Maine-Endwell Distinguished Teacher Award an  astonishing  eight  times;
this  honor is given by each senior class to the teacher who has had the
greatest influence on their education; and

  WHEREAS, Throughout her career thus far, Rachel Murat has brought an
uncompromising standard of excellence to her work and a  warm  sense  of
caring and concern to every young person she educates; and

  WHEREAS,  It  is  the  sense  of  this  Legislative  Body  that when
individuals of such noble aims and accomplishments are  brought  to  our
attention,  they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it

  RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its  deliberations  to
congratulate  Rachel Murat upon the occasion of being named the 2020 New
York State Teacher of the Year; and be it further

  RESOLVED, That a copy of  this  Resolution,  suitably  engrossed  be
transmitted to Rachel Murat.
