Assembly Resolution No. 986 BY: M. of A. Buttenschon COMMENDING Officer Peter Potasiewicz upon the occasion of his retirement after 25 years of distinguished service to the field of law enforcement WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this great Empire State; and WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication, command the respect and admiration of their community for their exemplary contributions and service on behalf of others; and WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Officer Peter Potasiewicz upon the occasion of his retirement after 25 years of distinguished service to the field of law enforcement on Tuesday, February 24, 2020; and WHEREAS, Born in Utica, New York, Peter Potasiewicz was raised in Yorkville, New York, where he attended Holy Trinity Elementary School and Notre Dame High School; he went on to graduate from The Mohawk Valley Police Academy in May of 2000; and WHEREAS, Fulfilling his lifelong dream to become an officer, Peter Potasiewicz began his illustrious law enforcement career with the Oneida County Sheriff's Office before joining the Utica Police Department in 2000; and WHEREAS, Rising through the ranks, Peter Potasiewicz held various esteemed positions within the department including: CID, CAC, Warrants, Evidence Technician, Crime Scene Investigator, FireArms Instructor, and Taser Instructor; he also served as an Instructor for the Police Academy; and WHEREAS, In December of 2014, Walmart Distribution Center in Marcy, New York, presented Peter Potasiewicz with a plaque of appreciation for his assistance with providing a police escort for the "Wreaths Across America" campaign; in 2015, this respected man received the Honorable Service Award from the Utica Police Department; and WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Cheryl, and two daughters, Renee and Katelyn, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to Officer Peter Potasiewicz upon the occasion of his retirement after 25 years of distinguished service to the field of law enforcement; and be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be transmitted to Officer Peter Potasiewicz.
