KENNEDY -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Investigations and Govern- ment Operations -- recommitted to the Committee on Investigations and Government Operations in accordance with Senate Rule 6, sec. 8 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said committee AN ACT to amend the legislative law, in relation to term limits for legislators The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. The legislative law is amended by adding a new section 2-a 2 to read as follows: 3 § 2-a. Legislative term limits. Any individual may serve a maximum of 4 five two-year terms for the state assembly. Any individual may serve a 5 maximum of five two-year terms for the state senate. No person shall 6 serve more than ten years in each house. No person shall have more than 7 twenty years of service, in the aggregate, as a state legislator. 8 § 2. This act shall take effect January 1, 2022; only terms commenced 9 on or after such date shall be counted toward an individual's years of 10 service.
