LAVALLE, DeFRANCISCO, LARKIN -- read twice and ordered printed, and when printed to be committed to the Committee on Higher Education -- recommitted to the Committee on Higher Education in accordance with Senate Rule 6, sec. 8 -- committee discharged, bill amended, ordered reprinted as amended and recommitted to said commit- tee AN ACT to amend the education law, in relation to efforts to reduce duplication of academic degree programs within the state university The People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem- bly, do enact as follows: 1 Section 1. Section 359 of the education law is amended by adding a new 2 subdivision 7 to read as follows: 3 7. The trustees shall establish a process to eliminate or reduce 4 duplication of academic degree programs. Such process shall include, but 5 not be limited to, the promulgation of criteria to determine which 6 programs shall be considered for elimination or consolidation, recogni- 7 tion of the effect of elimination or consolidation on access to such 8 degree program throughout the state university system, consideration of 9 the fiscal implications of any such elimination or consolidation, 10 consideration of the rights under article fourteen of the civil service 11 law of members of certified bargaining units employed by the state 12 university, and a process by which public hearings are held before elim- 13 ination or consolidation of any degree program. 14 § 2.
