        AN ACT to amend the parks, recreation and historic preservation law,  in
          relation to designating the Peconic Bay Region as a heritage area
          The  People of the State of New York, represented in Senate and Assem-
        bly, do enact as follows:
     1    Section. Subdivision 1 of section 35.03 of the parks,  recreation  and
     2  historic  preservation  law  is amended by adding a new paragraph (v) to
     3  read as follows:
     4    (v) The cohesive geographic area of the  Peconic  Bay  region  in  the
     5  county  of  Suffolk,  as  defined in paragraph (a) of subdivision one of
     6  section sixty-four-e of the town law, associated with and revealing  the
     7  region's place in colonial history; the American Revolution; African-Am-
     8  erican  history  and  culture, including but not limited to slavery, the
     9  underground railroad,  abolition,  and  post-World  War  II  traditional
    10  communities;  military  history;  Native  American  culture and history,
    11  including but not limited to  the  Shinnecock  and  Montaukett  Indians;
    12  maritime,  agricultural,  commercial  and industrial activities; culture
    13  and the arts; and scenic, aesthetic, natural and physical features.
    14    § 2. This act shall take effect immediately.
