| AN ACT |
| |
1 | Amending the act of March 2, 1988 (P.L.108, No.22), entitled "An |
2 | act creating the Coroners' Education Board; requiring |
3 | coroners and certain deputies to take a course of instruction |
4 | and an examination; and requiring continuing education," |
5 | further providing for continuing education. |
6 | The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania |
7 | hereby enacts as follows: |
8 | Section 1. Section 5 of the act of March 2, 1988 (P.L.108, |
9 | No.22), referred to as the Coroners' Education Board Law, is |
10 | amended to read: |
11 | Section 5. Continuing education. |
12 | (a) Credit hours.--Each year, every coroner, chief deputy |
13 | coroner and full-time deputy coroner shall take continuing |
14 | education of not less than [eight] twelve credit hours. The |
15 | board may, after consultation with the Pennsylvania State |
16 | Coroners Association, by regulation increase the minimum number |
17 | of continuing education hours required. |
18 | (b) Contents.--The board shall determine what courses, |

1 | seminars, lectures and meetings qualify for credit and the |
2 | number of credits to be given to each. Such instruction may be |
3 | given in conjunction with the annual convention of the Coroners |
4 | Association of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. |
5 | (c) Proof.--Upon submission of proof of attendance, the |
6 | board shall determine if the coroner or deputy has fulfilled the |
7 | continuing educational requirements. If the board determines |
8 | that the continuing educational requirements have not been |
9 | fulfilled, it shall notify the Governor in the case of a coroner |
10 | and the coroner in the case of a deputy, at which time a vacancy |
11 | shall be deemed to exist. Any coroner or deputy aggrieved by a |
12 | decision of the board shall have the right to appeal in |
13 | accordance with the provisions of Title 2 of the Pennsylvania |
14 | Consolidated Statutes (relating to administrative law and |
15 | procedure). |
16 | Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days. |
