A RESOLUTION

Recognizing the unwavering leadership, commitment and

2

trailblazing accomplishments of Ms. Elvetta Gemski, the head

3

coach of the field hockey program at Crestwood High School,

4

who was inducted into the Zag Field Hockey/National Field

5

Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Hall of Fame on January 8,

6

2011.

7

WHEREAS, Elvetta Gemski is a 1972 graduate of Temple

8

University; and

9

WHEREAS, As a student-athlete at Temple from 1968 to 1971,

10

she excelled in field hockey and lacrosse; and

11

WHEREAS, In 1973, Elvetta Gemski started a club field hockey

12

program at Crestwood High School located in Mountaintop,

13

Pennsylvania; and

14

WHEREAS, After two seasons of exhibition play, the Crestwood

15

Comets joined the Wyoming Valley Conference in 1976 where they

16

have dominated and established themselves as a force to be

17

reckoned with; and

18

WHEREAS, Elvetta Gemski is the only head coach the Crestwood

field hockey program has ever known; and

2

WHEREAS, During her tenure at Crestwood, the Comets captured

3

four Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA)

4

Class AA State titles; and

5

WHEREAS, Her teams have participated in the State playoffs 23

6

times and captured 18 District 2 championships; and

7

WHEREAS, Elvetta Gemski has produced three United States

8

National Team members and ten junior National Team members, with

9

110 of her players moving on to play field hockey at the

10

collegiate level; and

11

WHEREAS, Elvetta Gemski has been recognized for her

12

outstanding accomplishments by many organizations; and

13

WHEREAS, She was inducted into the Luzerne County Sports Hall

14

of Fame in 1999 and was named the Dita/NFHCA High School

15

National Coach of the Year in 2004; and

16

WHEREAS, In 2010, she was inducted into the Pennsylvania

17

Sports Hall of Fame; therefore be it

18

RESOLVED, That in recognition of Elvetta Gemski's tremendous

19

impact, trailblazing accomplishments and induction into the Zag

20

Field Hockey/NFHCA Hall of Fame the House of Representatives

21

extend its congratulations; and be it further

22

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives extend its

23

appreciation to Elvetta Gemski for the significant contributions

24

she has made to the lives of the young women under her tutelage.
