A RESOLUTION

Designating March 21, 2009, as "Quilting Day" in Pennsylvania.

2

WHEREAS, Since quilt making is such an important part of

3

Pennsylvania's heritage, it is fitting to reflect with pride on

4

the traditions of quilt making and the contributions quilt

5

makers have made to their families and our communities for many

6

generations; and

7

WHEREAS, The State Museum of Pennsylvania's collection of

8

quilts and related textiles is the result of the generosity of

9

donors and the forethought of curators who started the

10

collection in 1924 with the acquisition of a pair of pieced

11

pillowcases; and

12

WHEREAS, The State Museum's collection now includes almost

13

two hundred pieces representing many styles and techniques of

14

American quilt making dating from 1800 to the present; and

WHEREAS, The first National Quilting Day was observed in 1992

2

and continues to grow into a global celebration for all quilt

3

makers and quilt lovers; therefore be it

4

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate March

5

21, 2009, as "Quilting Day" in Pennsylvania and call on the

6

people of this Commonwealth to recognize and celebrate quilts

7

and quilt makers with appropriate ceremonies and activities.
