functions and instead forms antibodies that attack healthy

6

tissues and organs; and

7

WHEREAS, For most people, lupus is a mild disease affecting

8

only a few organs, but for others it may cause serious and even

9

life-threatening problems; and

diagnosed with lupus, making it more common than leukemia,

Native Americans and Asians; and

9

WHEREAS, While the cause of lupus is unknown, scientists

13

infections, antibiotics or other medications, pregnancy,

14

ultraviolet light and extreme stress; and

a more cautious use of medications have given physicians the

26

therapy, 80% to 90% of people with lupus can look forward to a

27
