A RESOLUTION

Honoring the memory of Officer Kathryn M. Battle, who passed

2

away at the age of fifty-seven on September 3, 2012.

3

WHEREAS, Officer Kathryn M. Battle was the daughter of

4

Jaundice Grant and the late James McNeil; and

5

WHEREAS, After graduating from John Bartram High School in

6

1972, she later joined the Philadelphia Police Department in

7

1987 and served with the 17th Police District and as an

8

undercover narcotics officer before transferring to the 12th

9

Police District; and

10

WHEREAS, At the 12th District, Officer Battle served as a

11

Homicide Victims' Assistance Specialist for the past ten years

12

and in that position, Officer Battle served the families of

13

homicide victims and strove to show her clients the human side

of the police department; and

2

WHEREAS, Officer Battle also contributed her time, effort and

3

talents to the communities within the City of Philadelphia as a

4

volunteer; and

5

WHEREAS, Officer Battle served as a past president of the

6

Guardian Civic League and was active with the Community Health

7

Enrichment Empowerment Resources Services; and

8

WHEREAS, To her great credit, Officer Battle received honors

9

from the Philadelphia Police Department and was a runner-up for

10

the Fencl Award given by the Daily News in 2001; and

11

WHEREAS, Officer Battle will be remembered as a beloved

12

family member, dedicated worker and avowed community steward;

13

and

14

WHEREAS, Officer Battle exemplified the best qualities of the

15

human experience and generously gave of her heart and time to

16

enhance the quality of life of her family and community, and her

17

loss will be felt by the many individuals who knew, admired and

18

loved her; therefore be it

19

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of

20

Philadelphia Police Officer Kathryn M. Battle and extend

21

heartfelt condolences to her sons, Christopher Tucker and James

22

Headen, her mother, Jaundice Grant, and her other family members

23

and many friends.
