A HOUSE RESOLUTION

TO WELCOME BACK TO SOUTH CAROLINA THE MASTER NATIONAL RETRIEVER CLUB ON THE OCCASION OF ITS 2019 MASTER NATIONAL EVENT, TO BE HELD IN CHERAW, OCTOBER 17-27, AND TO WISH THE CANINE COMPETITORS AND THEIR HANDLERS MUCH SUCCESS.

Whereas, the South Carolina House of Representatives is pleased to learn that the Master National Retriever Club will return to the Palmetto State on October 17, 2019, for the eleven-day running of its annual Master National event, to be held in Cheraw; and

Whereas, the first Master National Retriever Club event was run in 1991 in Glasgow, Delaware, with fewer than one hundred dogs. This event occurs annually and moves from region to region, divided in a manner similar to U.S. time zones; and

Whereas, in 1999, the first Master National competition held in South Carolina took place in Rembert and hosted approximately two hundred twenty dogs. The Master National returned to the Palmetto State in 2015, with nine hundred twenty dogs competing in Cheraw at the H. Cooper Black Sporting Dog Facility. This event was the largest to date; and

Whereas, in 2015, the estimated economic impact to South Carolina due to the Master National was $6-8 million dollars. For 2019, the impact is expected to be $7-9 million dollars; and

Whereas, this year's event, which is predicted to welcome more than one thousand dogs from all over the country, will showcase some of the top retrievers in the country, including Labrador retrievers, golden retrievers, Chesapeake Bay retrievers, South Carolina's own Boykin spaniels, standard poodles, and several other eligible retriever breeds; and

Whereas, the House takes great pleasure in saluting the Master National as it returns to the Palmetto State, and the members encourage all citizens of South Carolina, either as competitors registered in advance of the competition or as spectators, to attend this family-friendly event. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, welcome back to South Carolina the Master National Retriever Club on the occasion of its 2019 Master National event, to be held in Cheraw, October 17-27, and wish the canine competitors and their handlers much success.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the Master National Retriever Club.
