Whereas, Corine Rhue Hudson was born on October 11, 1919, the fourth child of Samuel and Susan Thompson Rhue. Her childhood was full of love, trust, and happiness, despite the fact that her mother died when she was only seven years old. Corine was reared by her father and an older sister who assumed the role of caretaker; and

Whereas, a woman of unwavering faith, Corine has always relied on the promises of her heavenly Father. As the mother of her church, she served tirelessly on the steward board, Women's Missionary Society, stewardess board, and senior choir and as a member of the church school; and

Whereas, truly generous of spirit, Corine has always extended the little she has had to others, welcoming many into her home for delicious meals. She remains humble, kind, generous, and spiritual; and

Whereas, Corine was married to the late Reverend Clifton A. Hudson. To their union, sixteen children were born, and with Clifton's four children, their family grew to include twenty children; and

Whereas, as a devoted mother, Corine has supported her children in a number of ways. In 1965, she was honored as the Mother of the Year by South Carolina State University, since fifteen of her twenty children ultimately pursued educations past high school, achieving master and doctoral degrees. She has traveled the United States extensively with and for her children, and as one of the few surviving widows of a World War I veteran, she has fully supported her sons who entered the military; and

Whereas, throughout the years, Corine has remained the spiritual inspiration for her family, and she continues to share her love of God with them; and

Whereas, bearing a rich legacy, Corine carries the torch as the matriarch of her family of over two hundred fifty children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and

Whereas, the South Carolina General Assembly is proud to honor this daughter of South Carolina at the celebration of her one hundredth birthday, and the members join with her family and friends in congratulating her on reaching this important milestone. Now, therefore,
