A BILL

TO AMEND SECTION 56-5-1810, CODE OF LAWS OF SOUTH CAROLINA, 1976, RELATING TO THE OPERATION OF A VEHICLE UPON THE RIGHT SIDE OF A ROADWAY AND EXCEPTIONS TO THIS PROVISION, SO AS TO PROVIDE WHEN PASSING A PEDESTRIAN, BICYCLE, TRACTOR, GOLF CART, OR SLOW-MOVING VEHICLE, THE OPERATOR OF A VEHICLE MAY DRIVE ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CENTER OF A ROADWAY IN A NO-PASSING ZONE UNDER CERTAIN CIRCUMSTANCES.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina:

SECTION    1.    Section 56-5-1810(c) of the 1976 Code is amended by adding at the end to read:

    "When passing a pedestrian, bicycle, tractor, golf cart, or other slow-moving vehicle, the operator of a vehicle may drive on the left side of the center of a roadway in a no-passing zone when such movement can be made in safety and without interfering with or endangering other traffic on the highway."

SECTION    2.    This act takes effect upon approval by the Governor.
