relating to the designation of a cybersecurity coordinator by each | ||
school district. | ||
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: | ||
SECTION 1. Subchapter D, Chapter 37, Education Code, is | ||
amended by adding Section 37.116 to read as follows: | ||
Sec. 37.116. DISTRICT CYBERSECURITY. (a) In this section, | ||
"cybersecurity" means the measures taken to protect a computer, | ||
computer network, computer system, or other technology | ||
infrastructure against unauthorized use or access. | ||
(b) The superintendent of each school district shall | ||
designate a cybersecurity coordinator to serve as a liaison between | ||
the district and the agency in cybersecurity matters. | ||
(c) The district's cybersecurity coordinator shall report | ||
to the agency as soon as practicable after the discovery of: | ||
(1) any breach of system security, as defined by | ||
Section 521.053, Business & Commerce Code, that occurs in the | ||
district; or | ||
(2) any unauthorized attempt to acquire computerized | ||
data from a district's computer, computer network, computer system, | ||
or other technology infrastructure that disrupts the normal | ||
operations of the district. | ||
(d) Information reported under Subsection (c) is | ||
confidential and not subject to disclosure under Chapter 552, | ||
Government Code. | ||
SECTION 2. This Act takes effect September 1, 2019. |
