R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Panola College celebrated an important milestone in
  its rich history with the commemoration of its 75th anniversary in
  2022; and
         WHEREAS, Panola College was established on June 14, 1947,
  with an original enrollment of 55 students, who met for classes in
  two temporary buildings; over the years, the institution has grown
  into a thriving academic community of more than 2,600 students, and
  the 35-acre campus now encompasses student apartments, the Charles
  C. Matthews Foundation Student Center, and the state-of-the-art
  Health and Natural Sciences Building; and
         WHEREAS, Primarily serving residents of Panola, Harrison,
  Marion, and Shelby Counties, Panola College offers a variety of
  associate's degree and university transfer programs, as well as
  distance learning, workforce training, and continuing education
  courses; in addition, students have the opportunity to compete in
  rodeo, volleyball, baseball, and basketball, as well as to
  participate in a variety of extracurricular offerings, such as fine
  arts exhibitions, theatrical productions, and musical
  performances; and
         WHEREAS, The 75th anniversary festivities began with a
  dedication ceremony for a Texas Historical Commission historical
  marker honoring the college, and the celebration continued with a
  number of other events held throughout the fall semester, including
  a laser show, a dinner theater, alumni mixers, and a reception and
  book signing for the commemorative volume, 75 Years Along the Pony
  Trail; and
         WHEREAS, Since its founding 75 years ago, Panola College has
  offered generations of students a quality education and a strong
  foundation for achievement, and in so doing, it is making an
  important contribution to the future of the Lone Star State; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 88th Texas
  Legislature hereby commemorate the 75th anniversary of Panola
  College and extend to all those associated with the institution
  sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the college as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
