Summary

Revises and reauthorizes through FY2024 the Department of Energy's Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E). Among other things, the bill revises the goals of ARPA-E to include the development of energy technologies that improve the resilience, reliability, and security of infrastructure to produce, deliver, and store energy; directs ARPA-E, in awarding grants, to consider the success or failure of any project carried out by an entity using prior grant funds; and requires ARPA-E to ensure that an award is not provided for a project unless the prospective award recipient demonstrates that (1) a sufficient attempt has been made to secure private financing, or (2) the project is not independently commercially viable.
