Summary

This resolution recognizes (1) January 2019 as National Mentoring Month, and (2) the staff and volunteers at quality mentoring programs who help young people reach their full potential. It acknowledges that mentoring is beneficial in that it supports educational achievement and self-confidence, supports young people in setting career goals and expanding social capital, reduces juvenile delinquency, improves positive outcomes, and strengthens communities. The resolution expresses support for (1) the creation and expansion of quality mentoring programs across the United States, and (2) initiatives to increase the percentage of young people who have a mentor.
