A BILL to amend and reenact §53.1-12 of the Code of Virginia, relating to Department of Corrections; health care continuous quality improvement committee.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That §53.1-12 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§53.1-12. Divisions of Department; division heads; health care continuous quality improvement committee.

A. The Director shall establish in the Department such divisions and regional offices as may be necessary and shall appoint heads of these divisions and offices in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 29 (§2.2-2900 et seq.) of Title 2.2.

B. The Director shall establish in the Department a health care continuous quality improvement committee. The membership of the committee shall include the Director, or his designee, and health care professionals employed by the Department, including a health services director, a physician, a nurse, a dentist, a mental health director, a pharmacist, a psychiatrist, a specialist in infection control, and a grievance counselor. The committee shall monitor the health care services provided by the Department, implement criteria to evaluate such health care services, and develop strategies to improve such health care services. The committee shall develop standardized quarterly quality reports and make them available to the public on the Department's website.
