Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:
1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding in Article 1 of Chapter 8 of Title 32.1 a section numbered 32.1-288.2 as follows:
§32.1-288.2. Testing of certain samples.
The Chief Medical Examiner (i) shall establish a process for the collection and testing of blood specimens of a person deemed to have consented to testing for infection with the human immunodeficiency virus or hepatitis B or C viruses pursuant to § 32.1-45.1 in cases in which a law-enforcement officer, salaried or volunteer firefighter, or salaried or volunteer emergency medical services provider is directly exposed to blood of such person in a manner that may, according to the then current guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, transmit human immunodeficiency virus or hepatitis B or C viruses and (ii) shall take steps to ensure that all law-enforcement agencies, fire companies and departments, and emergency medical services agencies in the Commonwealth are aware of such process.
