A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 46.2-736.3, relating to special license plates; former members of the Virginia General Assembly.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 46.2-736.3 as follows:

§46.2-736.3. Special license plates; former Virginia state legislators.

The Commissioner, on application by a former member of the Virginia General Assembly and receipt of written authorization from the Clerk of the House of Delegates or the Clerk of the Senate stating that the applicant is a former member of the Virginia General Assembly, shall issue to former members of the Virginia General Assembly special license plates whose design incorporates the great seal of Virginia and the legend FORMER VIRGINIA STATE LEGISLATOR. The design of license plates issued pursuant to this section may not be combined with the design of any other special license plate.

The annual fee for license plates issued pursuant to this section shall be $50 plus the prescribed cost of state license plates.

The provisions of subdivisions B 1 and 2 of §46.2-725 shall not apply to license plates issued pursuant to this section.

Upon request from the Clerk of the House of Delegates or the Clerk of the Senate, the Department shall cancel any license plate issued pursuant to this section.
