A BILL to amend the Code of Virginia by adding a section numbered 63.2-1701.01, relating to licensed or voluntarily registered family day homes; storage of firearms.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That the Code of Virginia is amended by adding a section numbered 63.2-1701.01 as follows:

§63.2-1701.01. Licensed or voluntarily registered family day homes; storage of firearms.

Possession of any firearm, other weapon, or ammunition in a licensed family day home or any family day home that has voluntarily registered pursuant to §63.2-1704 shall comply with federal and state laws. All firearms, other weapons, and ammunition shall be stored in a locked closet, cabinet, or container during the family day home's hours of operation unless they are being lawfully carried on an individual's person. Firearms and other weapons shall be stored unloaded and apart from ammunition. The key or combination to the locked closet, cabinet, or container shall be maintained out of the reach of all children in the home.
