AMENDMENT IN THE NATURE OF A SUBSTITUTE
(Proposed by the House Committee on Health, Welfare and Institutions
on January 31, 2019)

A BILL to amend and reenact §32.1-35.1 of the Code of Virginia, relating to Virginia Department of Health; monitoring of health care-associated infections.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia:

1. That §32.1-35.1 of the Code of Virginia is amended and reenacted as follows:

§32.1-35.1. Information on health care-associated infections.

Acute care hospitals shall Health care facilities that are required to report information about nosocomial health care-associated infections to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's National Healthcare Safety Network. Such hospitals (NHSN) pursuant to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services reporting requirements shall release their infection such data to the Board of Health through the NHSN. The specific infections to be reported, the hospitals required to report, and patient populations to be included shall be prescribed by Board regulation. Such hospital infection rate data may be released to the public by the Board, upon request.
